EMS Pelvic Floor Stimulation: A Non-Invasive Path Away from Urinary Incontinence
Research shows that EMS-based pelvic floor stimulation can yield measurable results for urinary incontinence within weeks, completely without intervention.

Urinary incontinence affects a large proportion of all women at some point in their lives, especially after pregnancy. Many live with the symptoms for a long time without seeking treatment, often because traditional pelvic floor exercises require discipline, time, and patience, with results that are delayed or never materialize. Research on EMS-based pelvic floor stimulation now points to an effective alternative.
What does the research say?
A randomized study published in 2023 in Journal of Women's Health Care compared EMS stimulation of the pelvic floor with traditional pelvic floor exercises in 38 women aged between 27 and 66. Participants in the EMS group underwent six treatments over three weeks, while the control group followed a standardized pelvic floor exercise program.
The results were clear. Six months after completing treatment, women who received EMS treatment showed a significant improvement in their quality of life, with a reduction in symptoms of approximately 35 percent. Women who only exercised on their own saw no measurable improvement during the same period. Most interestingly: the effect of the EMS treatment lasted for up to twelve months, demonstrating that the result is lasting and not just temporary.
Similar results have been observed in several other controlled studies, where EMS stimulation of the pelvic floor can contribute to improved muscle strength and reduced urinary leakage in women with stress incontinence, both after childbirth and later in life.
How does EMS work for the pelvic floor?
EMS, electromagnetic muscle stimulation, activates the pelvic floor muscles through powerful, targeted magnetic fields that pass through the tissue completely without contact or intervention. Unlike voluntary exercise, where the result is limited by how well one manages to identify and activate the correct muscle group, EMS induces thousands of involuntary muscle contractions per session. This provides deeper and more consistent muscle activation than most people can achieve on their own, regardless of motivation or technique.
The treatment is performed while sitting, fully clothed, and is not perceived as painful. A session takes approximately 30 minutes, and most treatment programs involve a few sessions per week over several weeks.
